On 5th September 2019, the Department of Botany founded its Botanical Society “FLORES” with the students of MSc Botany as its office bearers. The society is named “FLORES”, after the Portuguese term for FLOWER. The socio-political connection of the region of erstwhile Goa, Daman and Diu and later on UT of Daman and Diu (now UT of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu) with Portuguese culture needs no special emphasis. It is a known fact that the region is tremendously influenced by the Portuguese society and culture. With this in mind, the society was named “Flores” creating a bridge between the two cultural milieu of the region.
As a first, Dr. Minal Jani, A.C.F., Silviculture Division, Rajpipla, Gujarat honored us with her gracious presence and inaugurated the society by lamp lighting and motivating the students with her speech. “FLORES” is one of its own kind student’s society for academic interaction and experiential learning where eminent resource persons are invited to deliver lectures, hands-on training thus giving ample exposure to the UG and PG students of Botany. The department through its Botanical society “FLORES” has been conducting hands-on practical sessions from invited speakers, organizing oral and poster presentations.
